We go on yet another wild ride through the IHG Rewards Free Nights promotion fine print, learn how to fly with just 35k or 30k miles RT to Europe with US Air off Peak Awards, we say goodbye to Plink, vsit North Korea, American National Parks and Portugal. We also have awesome Personal Finance links & advice and the main draw (hope it is not lawsuits) the infamous TBB Blog Buzz where we lay it all out per advice of our therapist!
TBB Blog Mission: To Entertain. Educate. Inspire. In That Order
Loyalty Lobby reports that the free nights from the IHG Rewards promotion expire December 31, 2015 and terms seem “…to imply that they have specific award inventory reserved for these free nights awards and it can be drastically different from the points based one”. So please beware about this as a similar promo last year specific to stays in China did not turn out so well when so many tried to use the free nights in…expensive Hong Kong hotels.
Travel With Grant has a thorough post on how to Book US Airways Off-Peak Award Flights to Europe .One of the biggest miles bargains to Europe is flying on US Air off peak (January 15 to February 28), just 35,000 US Air miles (30,000 if you have the US Airways card, use his link to reward him for not plastering his post with his affiliate link like Milevalue or all the other bank servants would have done). Nicely done.
Loyalty Lobby again breaks news and reports that IHG Rewards has pretty much now sent everyone a stern warning that if you sign up for any promotions you are not entitled to…your account is due to having very bad things happen to it. Maybe they got sick of reading all these posts about how many points one can earn per each stay in their hotels huh? ^@#$^& Funny how a little later View from the Wing had a similar post. I don’t see LL being invited to any TV show as an expert….what a shame!
Plink folded. Effective September 11, 2014. Sad but not surprised at all. (HT to Milenomics on Twitter)
Awesome Interactive Panoramas Give A Glimpse At Everyday Life In North Korea I can’t post these here so you should check them out yourself!

Portraits of Portugal: Lisbon and Sesimbra at high speed. By Matador Network. Amazing video!
3 Investments Retirees Should Avoid. By Morningstar at Think Advisor. They are: Foreign currency bonds, emerging markets funds, and alternatives. I agree for the most part…I think a tiny allocation to emerging markets is fine. The other two are not worth the fees and heartache. Most important part of the article is the last paragraph on the “Upsides of Simplification”!
Financial Schemes Against the Elderly Are Increasing. At the New York Times. I see more of these. I think it is absolutely horrific and these assholes who commit these crimes should be locked up for decades. Preferably, sent to Guantanamo. Or for true justice, fry them!
What is the most important personal financial advice I am asked. This is it: “You must start saving early, the earlier, the more, the better” – TBB
Note: This section is for long time followers of this hobby and references to blogs/bloggers may not make much sense if you are new to this. You are welcome to stay and read it of course but if you go WTF just remember this note! I think of TBB as the SNL of miles/points blogs and the content here is intended to be satire. If you get hurt I can refer you to my therapist!
If you are going to pimp a credit card at least make it very entertaining as Personal Finance Digest has done with “Introducing the world’s most amazing advice column“. Hilarious!
Arrival Miles Can Be Used to Pay Airline Taxes and Fees – Milevalue [ Holy Mother of God…How many times are we going to sell this card? Every day selling this card, every single day…running out of reasons to sell it so…we repeat the same old arguments…again…rinse…repeat…Ummm, this is not going to go well, I am already starting to get angry!!! ]
Top Canada Credit Cards: Aeroplan, Marriott Rewards & More – The Points Guy [ We will not leave a credit card market alone, we are expanding north! We have way too many Directors on staff, they need to eat too! About 15 credit cards to sell in just one post and here I am….gun shy of linking my crappy Amazon link an additional time on top of the standard disclosure on top of my posts. Sometimes I think the joke is on me! ]
The Happiness Of Pursuit – One Mile at a Time [We are taking a break from selling credit cards to sell the book of another renowned miles expert/travel hacker, this Chris World Domination dude. I compared the link to my own links in my Top 10 Personal Finance books post some time ago and yep, it certainly looks like an affiliate link. Not sure whose but this is certainly not disclosed in this lame disclosure: “Full disclosure: Chris didn’t pay me to write this post or even ask me to review anything, though he did send me a copy of the book (I bought a Kindle version separately as well). He also clued me in to ordering vegetarian meals on Lufthansa (nearly always Indian and delicious!), so I probably owed him one anyway. ” Wow! ]
Delta Forces ExpertFlyer to Remove All Availability – The Points Guy [ U serious? This is news? What the hell are your staff doing all day long? Oh wait, they are working on marketing related projects probably. Certainly they are not going to Wal Mart to hone this craft lol ]
Have a Citi AAdvantage Card? You May Get Discounted Redemptions! – Frugal Travel Guy [ Yawn. A commenter raves about the 10% feature and says ” a hidden gem”. Stab me por favor! ]
To Lap Child, Or Not To Lap Child — That Is The Question – One Mile at a Time [ Reading about lap child material in this blog is like expecting Delta Points not to push credit cards at every opportunity…in other words, this is just odd appearing here! It just goes to show you that our young friend has totally tasted the money and now is in a major pump mode by “extending” his target market to….families lol. Sure saves some time to devote to other more important things like…marketing like the other big boys ]
Will I lose my Arrival Plus points if I cancel my card? – Noob Traveler [ I told you it is not going to take that long to sell this baby again. The answer is “Yes and click my link”. Care to guess how many times the affiliate links was inserted? I was off by one! It was five…I had guessed six before I looked at it. I failed! ]
Travel Challenge: Tokyo – Frugal Travel Guy [ In my own opinion, one of the most embarrassing “expert” features in this space, after of course the mother of all embarrassments: the FTG Credit Card “Tool” which amazingly still appears to be alive selling newbies credit cards 7 to 29 at a time (oh, the horror the horror). Anyway, they likely use a template…yikes! ]
An 18,000+ point Delta Mileage Run: Positioning to LAX the start city – Delta Points [ Hang in there, this is only Part two! Oh, selling the US Bank Flex card today ]
Las Vegas: VIP Line Night Club Access, Buffet Line Passes, & More With Hyatt at MGM Hotels – Million Mile Secrets [ Can you believe the arrows are getting BIGGER? So many words, so many pictures, so many arrows, so many credit card links. Hope the ghostwriter(s) gets a raise soon ]
No Foreign Transaction Fee on Premium Cards: The Weekly Wish – The Points Guy [ Another lame excuse to sell another 25 credit cards in one post!!! I failed again, I had guessed 24!]
Video: Burning Man 2014 Drone Flight Video – Points, Miles & Martinis [ Hmmm, I wonder where this video was seen before. Cough. ]
Is Upgrading to the American Express Platinum Worthwhile? – The Points Guy [ Just helped his parents about this and had to sell us all about it! ^%#$# ]
Collecting Miles As A Beginner? – One Credit Card at a Time [ Like I said a few posts above, this blog is on a major credit card market target expansion. Makes sense, newbies have no clue and they think churning is associated with eating or whatever. 36 credit card affiliate links in one blog post, watch out The Points Guy, gunning for YOU! Eeeeeeeeeek. Barf #2, thank YOU !]
Ok, I think I have a problem. I can’t stop…I will try to stay away the whole weekend…
