Lots to cover, so let’s get on with the show! Oh, I burned 63k points today, woohoo!
MVP POST OF THE DAY
The US Mint is back in the news again at the Wall Street Journal! “Do you get dollars with that Trillion-Dollar Coin?” This brings back the glorious memories of hauling heavy boxes to local banks to earn miles! The ride was fun while it lasted. I had no idea that the famous (or infamous) article that Scott McCartney wrote was his most popular, wow! And I think he may have been off a bit off on that final tally number attached to MrPickles. And I just LOVE LOVE LOVE the closing:
I have long found the creativity and passion of frequent-flier mileage enthusiasts to be inspirational. It’s good to know that serious students of fiscal policy do, too.
Darn right!!! Together we can save the country from any cliffs coming…but I am not so sure how we can save ourselves from the biggest cliff of all…Rev based loyalty programs. Hey Gary Leff and Ben, fear for your caviar!!!

Comment from a reader at JohnnyJet site on a post about Delta Skymiles: “delta says all levels at all times. what a farce. i tried to book a trip from miami to portland , maine 11 months in advance. the cheapest ticket was 40,000 miles. i am giving up my delta credit card as this program is useless.” [40k is a super deal for Skypesos!!!!]
I missed this somehow from two days ago. Hack My Trip on “United Airlines or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love. Bomb“. Very comprehensive post about flying United. As I am debating where to burn my $200 AmexPlatinum credit (it will NOT be on Delta again), can someone confirm four $50 gift cards will be reimbursed (as it is possible with AA?). Thanks!
The 10 most overrated tourist traps (and what to see instead). by USA Today. I have been to some and tend to agree! Especially on the ridiculous “Little Man Pee” statute in Brussels!!
Frequent Miler’s wife churns for 305k. Not bad. I just want to let you all know that the likelihood of me getting a Kohl’s card is as high as finding a low level ticket on Delta to any desirable location:-)
The Deal Mommy has her own post on Club Carlson and some properties she has already visited or would like to. I must say that the Radisson on International Drive in Orlando at just 9k Club Carlson points is an amazing value. Not aspirational of course but who cares, it is clean and beds are fine and you won’t be spending much time in the room, save your money and spend it elsewhere!

Ok, I am struggling to find stuff here as I have managed to silence all blatant abusers (or would like to think that it was me). So, here comes a news release telling us how Delta came first in on-time arrivals. Ok, good job I guess. But you will remain first in sucky award website, so sucky…it hurts!
Have I lost my “cutting edge?”. Absolutely not! Was it because I was implicitly threatened with a lawsuit by suits from a public company? Of course not…
I am just bored. I kind of miss those reliable “This offer is expiring by midnight!” alarming posts! If you don’t click NOW you will rot in eternal hell!). I wish Chase or Bent Offers or whoever brings them back, you can spot the greedy bloggers a mile away….It just has become a little, shall we say, “subtle”?

There are better/easier options than gift cards for the $200 Platinum card airline reimbursement. I’ll tell you over lunch…
TravelBlogger Buzz says
Ok, sounds good, thanks!
Scottrick says
They’ll be reimbursed with United, but you can only apply one per reservation. One solution is to book one-ways. Thanks for the shout-out!
TravelBlogger Buzz says
Ok, thanis for the confirmation!

I bought a $200 gift card from Southwest. Will it be reimbursed?
TravelBlogger Buzz says
On twitter they said yes. I was hoping someone did it recently though

Can somebody please explain why Mr. Pickles is such a “big deal”. The guy NEVER flies and doesnt really know anything about traveling or airlines. As far as I can tell all he does is unfairly bitch and complain and demand compensation for the stupidest reasons. It boggles my mind that the FF community looks at him like a God when all he is is a crybaby cheat.
Travel Summary says
He’s on the SQ A380 right now on his way to Singapore, Bali, and Hong Kong on a mega trip. He frequently travels all over the US for work. He’s not a blogger, so he doesn’t tell everyone how he gets all his points, but he collects tons of them. I was able to decipher one vague tweet of his a few months ago, and it ended up saving me hundreds of dollars on my hotel stay. He knows a lot but doesn’t tell very much.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
Yeah, I am following along! He does have a blog by the way, just not regularly updating it. He is the antithesis of MMS (pics & arrows)! Like Scott said, he is the Dos Equis guy of miles/points!
I can decipher some of his tweets but certainly not all! I like to save hundreds of dollars too on my hotel stays so you can tell me by email please. Did you know my middle name is “sealedlips”? 🙂
TravelBlogger Buzz says
Lots of guys in this space do the same things over and over to earn miles/points. If I hear again the words apporama or 2BM/3BM or whatever I am going to hurl:-)
Mr.Pickles is a unique individual. Original. He does things only you can ever fantasize..well no, you can not even fantasize about! He is one of a kind. Is he controversial? Yes! Miles enthousiasts tend to love or hate him. I tend to fall in the first camp but sometimes he falls into the 2nd camp as he does not admit some things… ;-)(know you are reading!).
And he did develop a brand which is impressive by itself.
He is in a Singapore Airlines business class right now bitching about the two noisey babies, lol. He does not fly much but when he does, he makes it count. Some people have really good and busy careers in this hobby you know!
Scottrick says
Mr. Pickles can be very charismatic, especially in person. There’s an understated charm about him, similar to The Most Interesting Man in the World (the Dos Equis Man), that makes you want to read everything just in case he hints at something new and interesting.
