We bring you AA Biz class awards, meet the best rewards credit card, see Roman ruins in Algeria, visit North Korea over Kim II Sung Day, get new offers on the Southwest and AAdvantage Aviator Red cards, how to secure your Apple gadgets, go kick some ISIS ass and on and on…

Is this hobby slowing down or is it just me? With the continued low cost airlines expansion, great airfare sales that now come regularly, Basic Economy fares spreading, revenue based earning almost complete with revenue based burning in the horizon, punitively no or low award seats and of course never ending devaluations…And yet, no big shakeout in the blog industry covering what we do. We had a few blogs drop out but, you know, everyone else keeps fighting for newbie readers who still get excited being tricked into believing they can travel for “free”, that it is so easy even a caveman person with a decent credit score can do it…yawn.
Ok, lets get you the Buzz!
The Top 25 Credit Cards. The hobby starts here via Mile Nerd.
There are pockets of AA biz class awards to Europe this summer. And good luck, you’ll need it!
Remember bloggers screaming to “hurry”, “last chance”, “ending tomorrow/today/hourlycountdown”? I don’t do this shit here. Maybe that has a direct relation to the number of clicks my site receives. So be it. Anyways, after the long intro, I just wanted to let you know that three Southwest credit cards are now up to 60k signup bonus. Note: the links lead to PUBLIC non-affiliate offers. Yep, not available with my links #covfefe!
We also have the AAdvantage Aviator Red World Elite Mastercard offering 50,000 for the first purchase for paying the $95 annual fee. Good luck finding award seats with AA! Again, it is a PUBLIC link, no $$ to me. Yep, not available with my links #sad. Pumping cards that do not pay me is just so full of…integrity LOL.
We have also come very accustomed to the mainstream media writing about what we do. This one talks about the best rewards credit card isn’t a Chase Sapphire Reserve after all. The article lists the Barclaycard Arrival Plus card the best rewards credit card for two-year rewards value. Finally, I get to pitch both of these cards available with my links woohoo! Take it with lots of grains of salt or covfefe if you prefer π
TBB likes to educate too so you should probably look into this: How to secure your Apple and iCloud accounts.
The waddle of this duck will make you smile too.
The state of the Internet in 2017. By Mary Meeker. I never cared for her but I always enjoyed her annual take on this, enjoy! #long
We continue the exploration of Algeria with yet another post by GlobalGaz: Roman Ruins in Algeria: The Great, The Good, The Subpar. The Algeria series of posts have made me a fan, looking forward to more!
Well, since I like off the beaten path stuff, lets go and get as close to ISIS as we can get! The Road to Tel Afar.
Freddo’s trip to North Korea continues, Kim II Sung Day.
Ok, fine, I just could not resist…41+ of the funniest reactions to Covfefe LOL to infinity!

Looks like Emily over at MMS has a new boyfriend. Spotted flying for free (lol) with her wearing a Tshirt with “my bloody valentine” in the front. Looks Indian again? Oh, love is so powerful sometimes that makes you fly for free on Business class and just love sharing it with others so they can do it too. It won’t be long before it gets a comment by a reader saying “Good job Emily & Daraius!” Bwahahaha. Credit card sales machines, they ‘ll do anything for a conversion! It is amazing this site is still operated by these two “together”.
If I was monetizing like these guys…
Of course it must have been a time to do some selling again all the time…
And I leave you with this…

I could get used to this.

Who needs the bot of ScottCastle anymore?

Mary Meeker-Gosh, wasn’t she in the garage with Steve and Woz all those years ago?
Good for Emily getting out again. Let’s just hope he’s not a blogger.
I’m still on the fence on that new Amex card. I guess I could dump our Everyday cards (which were the last great thing) and get rhe new ones. 20k is 20k, and we only had Everydays to keep the MRs from expiring, which the new cards do too.
TBBTheDude says
Mary has been around the block…
I wonder if she looked in his browsing history π
I am dumping Mrs. TBB’s Everyday card shortly as I am starting the min spend on her new Blue Business Plus card today…
Darn cc provider, still has not paid for her conversion!
Ben says
You guys think that new Amex Biz card is better than Everday Preferred if I’m over 30 purchases/month? I was leaning towards EP. I’m dumping SPG as my everyday card and need to make a decision soon. We don’t have links, so I’ll use yours.
TBBTheDude says
I was referring to the Everyday card, the one with no annual fee. The Everyday Preferred can still work if you are okay with the 30 purchases/month—->too much mental bandwidth to keep track for me, I like simplicity. We need an Amex card to keep carrying the MR points forward. 2% on everything up to $50k works for us. I like the KISS rule π
Ben says
Yeah 30 should be easily since I like to stay as a 2 card family for purchases, unless I need to hit a signup bonus. We use CSR for travel & dining and an everyday card for everything else.
Crap… looks like your link doesn’t cover Amex EP. I’ll get you next time for a churn / sign up bonus.
TBBTheDude says
Yeah, not the EP.
But the Blue Business Plus is a go π
Chris says
What are the chances applying for both Southwest personal cards at 4/24 will get me approved…0% or less than 0%?
TBBTheDude says
I would say they are low. But never 0% with Chase…Maybe doc has a data point π

George, you should stay at the hostel in the N Korean embassy in Berlin. That way you can say you’ve been to N Korea?
TBBTheDude says
I was not aware of that. Run by the embassy? Will I get to sleep next to the picture of the Great Leader grandson?
I may go through Berlin on my next trip back to Greece, I may do a stopover π
ABC says
Time is running out.
“Itβs not far from landmarks such as the Brandenburg Gate, and while online reviews complain of dodgy WiFi and broken windows, the hostel offers βgood value for your money,β as one traveler recently remarked. A bed in a mixed six-person dorm costs only about $20.”
They should try the WiFi in NK.

Thanks for the link, very interesting.

Always enjoy these posts. Don’t be hating on Emily though. She’s living it up now that she let her hair grow out. Btw, are AA awards that impossible to find? Just curious, I don’t have many miles there anyway so it’s good to know if I should leave them alone.
Sam says
You can leave your AA miles alone, or you can try to use them.
Same result, except during brief periods like the one Buzz announced.
TBBTheDude says
Lol..what Sam said π
I am not hating on Emily at all. I am no fan of her holding credit cards in establishments we may frequent because, cough, we know around here it is NOT for the love of the hobby lol.
I am not making a comment on her taste for men
#covfefe
SumOfAll says
You gotta give her lots of leeway. Anyone being trapped let alone married to that violent trashcan of a human for any period of time deserves sympathy and understanding.
Ryan says
I was able to get two TATL J tickets on AA last summer when the unicorn made a brief appearance – just got lucky though. I’ve been looking at redemptions to LIM for the spring, in coach since it’s not that long of a haul from MIA especially, so far it’s not horrible but there’s no J to speak of.
I’ve found UA and even DL in some cases to have more than AA. I wouldn’t avoid AA miles but I’m not earning or using them nearly as much as I did years ago…lower priority than others for me
TBBTheDude says
Just the fact we are even talking about DL having more award availability than AA….it clearly underscores how much AA has fallen in that department. I still say AA now will lead the herd to full revenue based burning instead of DL.
Disclosure: Many of my predictions have been wrong…but less than Gary Leff’s lol.
seth says
I understand the AA bashing but 70k ORD-HKG-DPS on CX in J is a good deal to me considering the times we live in. Just booked this with minimal flexibility on dates. But I agree, forget about AA miles for use on AA planes – I don’t even bother with that non-sense anymore. Still value in the program though if you look outside the box.

Started looking for rental car in SFO area
Wow, Sixt is so much more expensive. So much for my Diamon elite status with them.
Any GOTO discount codes for Hertz or National?
I should have gotten another Barclaycard Arrival Plus…I may still do it.
Peteco says
Have you tried Avis? I use code A074800 and it’s cheaper than all the rest, every time. Another good thing about Avis in SFO is that they have a very good location downtown, a few blocks from Union Square. I always pick up there after I spent a few days in the city ( don’t want a car there) and drop at SFO airport.
ABC says
They never ask for any Citi ID to use that code?
I last used my AARP code. Got upgraded!
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Thanks for the feedback.
Lost my (free) status in Avis and have not been back since.
I first get an idea in Priceline for prices. I checked out Sixt, no way. I will check out National and Hertz as I have some status and will find a few codes. Thinking to burn some UR or MR points or even TY points but hesitate to do car rentals through them for obvious reasons (may use points for airfare & not going direct—>complications/no elite bennies perhaps). MileageUpdate calls me a poser for not getting the car rental free…I always let the car rental way down in the priority list, my aim has always been primarily to fly and stay for free π
Whatever I go with, I will feed res # to Autoslash and let them do their thing.
ABC says
World Elite MasterCard will give you Avis Preferred Plus status (takes 10 days after calling them). The AARP code gives you an upgrade. Autoslash is normally amazing dut didn’t do a great job on my most recent rental.

TBBTheDude says
Thanks…I need to check what I have with Avis one of these days!
Sam says
You really don’t want a car while staying in San Francisco proper. Uber is there in about 30 seconds, and while they don’t speak English, they do read GPS.
Also, I recommend the Disney Family museum on the old Presidio. It tells the story of a guy who created a dream, a business, a phenom out of his imagination and hard work. His daughter built the museum because she said people didn’t know her father as a man. Some didn’t even know he was a real person-thought he was like Ronald McDonald, the Pillsbury Dough Man or the Frugal Travel Guy.
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Lol on that last one…
Yeah, when we are in the city no car. Will pick it up on the way out of it to Sunnyvale and keep it for the duration as we use it for daily excursions in the area, on to Berkley for a night at the Claremont and then spend the last weekend in the Monterrey area & then return it to SFO.
Sam says
Correction-The Frugal Travel Guy was a real person. I was thinking of Ron Popeil, who is a true American legend:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Popeil
And came up with the frugal pasta maker (among many others):
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Zz1ZVg2RtTo
Whoops-seems Popeil was a real person too.
Well, there was Captain Kangaroo…..
TravelBloggerBuzz says
That’s the Chop-omatic guy!
I think you are safe with Captain Kangaroo lol
