A very short post from the Grand Hyatt in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to say hello to my readers, bring you about five articles that blew me away recently and want to assure you that we are returning home this weekend and that the blog will get back on track. Our kids left us in Bangkok and we then traveled to my in laws in Malaysia and stayed with them three nights before we returned to Kuala Lumpur to finally stay at the Grand Hyatt which we absolutely love and has now become my favorite Hyatt property. Needless to say, we are greatly enjoying our trip which reminds me why we play this miles/points game, to create memorable experiences with loved ones…and saving money to blow on, well, other experiences that do not include airfare and lodging lol. We are thankful for the US banks that made yet another trip like this possible.

To see more from the trip, follow me on Instagram, I have been posting a lot there! Posting this from the Grand Club lounge at the Kuala Lumpur Grand Hyatt. Everything has been amazing here, the suite, the lounge, the swimming pool and oh my god, the breakfast is the best ever…and I have had many breakfasts in Hyatts lol.
I have even managed to upload some videos too, so subscribe to my YouTube channel.
A few articles I really enjoyed and want to share with you and then a few pics from the trip if you don’t have Instagram (I understand if you do not) and then we are back home and back on track here I hope.
52 Things I Learned in 2024
The three things I singled out:
- In 2022, 55% of Macy’s income came from credit cards rather than retail sales. That’s fairly normal for US department stores. [Pan Kwan Yuk]
- In Mongolia, people rave on horseback. [Hwang So-hee]
- South Korea has 1,012 robots per 10,000 employees, the highest in the world. This year China overtook Germany and Japan. With 470 robots per 10k employees, China’s robot density has doubled in four years. [Michael Ouellette]
An I.V.F. Mix-Up, a Shocking Discovery and an Unbearable Choice
Wow! So well written, so shocking, stayed with me for a while wondering what would I have done? Two couples in California discovered they were raising each other’s genetic children. Should they switch their girls?
‘Brain Rot’ Is the 2024 Word of the Year, According to Oxford University Press
If you’ve been scrolling too long on social media, you might be suffering from “brain rot,” the word of 2024, per the publisher of the Oxford English Dictionary. – Maybe this explains a lot of what’s happening all over the world…
Meet the Extreme Travelers Trying to Visit Every Country in the World
Some of these travelers attended the 2024 Extraordinary Travel Festival in Bangkok. Very hardcore travelers indeed. I instead am more interested to travel to every Hyatt in the world that has a lounge lol.
Frequent Fliers Are Rethinking Loyalty Programs and Setting Themselves Free
I stopped chasing airline status back in 2012. And I am adjusting how I play this game lately with so many devaluations and award sweetspots going away. Let alone the dynamic pricing and bank restrictions and shall I go on? As we are about to fly back to the US on Turkish Airlines Business Class tickets thanks to Air Canada Aeroplan miles (that came from Chase Bank Ultimate Rewards points through a few Chase Ink business credit cards) that is. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy this game and do find value after 30 years deep in it. Hopefully we can keep this train going!
And a few pics from our time in Kuala Lumpur, a lot more on Instagram and YouTube:

As of today, I have burned 1,946,104 miles/points year to date (1,148,286 in 2023) and have 4,329,395 miles/points in the bank.

Every Hyatt with a lounge! Now that’s a goal. For a while I thought of every national park but no. Age does that.
Great you are having such a a time.

Glad you are having a great time! Yeah, I don’t instagram. I’ve already got too many things to look at but these pics are great and I am sure the place is wonderful. Never been to that part of the world other than to go to Vietnam but might try one of these days.
Hope the rest of your trip goes great!!

I’m so glad you love the Grand Hyatt KL. I think their breakfast and club lounge are off the chain and the pool is awfully nice as well. Good to hear that you’re having fun.

Interesting article on the extreme travelers. I have no desire to do what they’re doing but at the same time I totally get them.

Thank you all, videos from the KL Grand Hyatt suite and breakfast are up on YouTube. Much more on Instagram.
If you have a Facebook account, it is pretty easy to get an Instagram account. You can set it to private and never post but follow the few people you want, like me.
Last day here and trying to catch up on everything and try to get ready mentally for the return to the US and the cold/snow weather, brrrrr…
Also, requalified as World of Hyatt Globalist and when this stay credits I will hit 70 night credits. I am done for the year.

Hmm every Hyatt with a lounge sounds inspirational. GH KL is on our list as hear so many good things about it. Maybe 2025 it may actually happen. I estimate by 2027 we will be done with points as the cupboard will be close to bare, I’ve been enjoying your Instagram posts with the detail provided.
