This blog started way back in 2012 focusing on my crazy hobby addiction of traveling with frequent flyer miles, hotel and bank points. It has since evolved to a curated at least weekly post of the best web content along with my commentary. Here to Educate primarily, sometimes Entertain and if I get to Inspire you, well, that is a bonus.
This is a one man labor of love operation, enjoy it while it lasts. I will be sprinkling in the links above throughout the posts going forward because the TBB marketing department, after extensive research lol, determined your eyes just skip this section above.
PERSONAL FINANCE
This post has a table with the Best Performing Stocks of All Time. As we mentioned last week, it still boggles the mind that Altria Group tops this list with a cumulative return of 265,528,901%.
This blog post catches us up with what is going lately in the markets. For a while now, US small caps have been under performing so much against large cap stocks that you started hearing whispering voices “why do we have small cap stocks again?” or “look at my S&P 500, who needs them small cap stocks?” and stuff like that. And then, boom, just like that, out of nowhere, the small caps caught up last month. So, to repeat, diversify!

Another horrific story from the New York Times, be careful out there! How One Man Lost $740,000 to Scammers Targeting His Retirement Savings. Sometimes I am in support of the death penalty and the electric chair to fry these pieces of shit who do this.
This piece of shit is going to spend the rest of her life in prison: Mistress of Texas Ponzi schemer and ex-advisor gets life in prison. So, next time a really nice guy approaches you in church, run the opposite direction!
Debra Mae Carter, 65, was the mistress of William Neil “Doc” Gallagher, a former investment advisor representative who courted clients with Bible-thumping zeal and loads of Texas charm, and was sentenced in 2021 to three life sentences — plus another 30 years in prison — for leading a $32 million Ponzi scheme…Gallagher was the head of the Gallagher Financial Group, which advertised on Christian radio with the tag line, “See you in church on Sunday.”

Wow, this post about owls. Who’s Who. These owls may wear the same game face, but when it comes to personality, they’re as different as day and night.

I have been learning more about Thailand since my visit last year. The place just felt like home and definitely will continue exploring it later this year and who knows maybe one day we can retire there. I don’t like the word “retire” by the way, makes me feel old. Anyway, I really like watching this guy on YouTube with a short segment each day going over what’s happening in the country, check it out: Tim Newton Today.
Also, Thailand has made two huge changes that impacts foreigners. One is that we now get 60 days to visit instead of only 30 days. And the other one is this new DTV Visa which is an absolute game changer imho. Learn more about it here: Thailand’s New Long Term “Destination Thailand” DTV Visa Is Now Available: Application Experience! The video interview in this post with the Thai minister by another blogger I follow, Retired Working For You, lays it all out neatly.
If I had an intern, I would assign them the task to figure out which of these hotels we can stay for free using our points. Until then, the link will do just fine, enjoy: The 50 Best Luxury Hotels on Earth.

MILES & POINTS NEWS/PROMOS/MY ACTION
I only pick worthy links to share with you. As there is so much crap out there! I think what stands out this week is how the so called “low cost” airlines are throwing out their business model and becoming just like the legacy airlines. Amazing how things have turned in the airline space, what a tough business it is.
GENERAL NEWS/PROMOS/NEWBIES/ETC.
The shocking development from Southwest Airlines to finally do away with the cattle call boarding process and move to assigned seating after 50 years was, well, seismic. But can they pull it off? They have a chance to do things differently again, we shall see what happens. How Southwest’s Extra Legroom and Assigned Seating Might Work.
Spirit Airlines is fighting to stay alive. And making huge changes: Spirit Airlines Changes Business Model with Bundled and Business Fares. Will it be enough? We shall find out soon. The industry is ripe for more consolidation. Current regulatory environment is definitely not blowing that way. But what is the alternative?
United just improved Basic Economy again allowing passengers to check in online. As time has passed, legacy airlines just erased the business model of these lower cost airlines. And we all know what happened to costs across the board. Meanwhile, JetBlue’s latest quarterly results look promising for a turnaround and we will know in the next two weeks if the Alaska Airlines merger with Hawaiian Airlines will go through.
I received this email from United and I wish I was near these locations and the timing worked. I am a sucker for events like this: Uniquely United. I am also a sucker for airline swag lol. They go fast, by the time you see this I am sure they are all sold out. I wish more airlines do events like this.
I always thought these “experiences” that are offered by banks and other companies that you have to bid on were kind of, well, unrealistic trying to bid to win one package that some crazy guy bids a ridiculous amount of points to win it in the end. And I just almost never bothered. Including Hilton’s experiences. But after this post by Stephen Pepper (no relation to Pepper Rewards) over at Frequent Miler I changed my tune and have bookmarked the site. Hilton Experiences might be a better deal than you thought. I see a beachfront romantic candle-lit dinner in a private tent at the Hua Hin Hilton Resort and Spa in Thailand for only 25,000 Hilton Honor points. We will be there for one night and it is almost on our wedding anniversary. Let’s keep it a secret and see if she reads my blog lol. Now, logistics wise, I hope it is not painful as it is cashing the Hilton gift cards we get using our Amex Hilton Honors Surpass cards, anyone did this?
CREDIT CARD CORNER
Please help the small independent blogs like mine continue to exist by supporting them with your CREDIT CARD clicks, thank you!
I will indicate with NEW every new section as the rest is the same from the previous blog post and will finally roll off those parts as offers expire, thank you.
NEW: Interesting. We will find out how smooth these guys are in handling claims: Chase Moving Insurance Providers, Increased Coverage.
NEW: Here is How to Apply For Chase Ink Cards.
NEW: One of these days I should do this DoorDash thing from my favorite bank lol. Chase Partners With DoorDash: Offers DashPass & Monthly Credits To Sapphire Reserve, Preferred, Freedom, Slate Cards.
NEW: There are several bank transfer bonuses presently but none you should choose to do so I am not even mentioning them. Or do you want me to list them and/or link to them?
The top credit card offer right now is the 120k Chase Ink Business Preferred card. This card has been at an elevated 100k Signup Bonus for a while, so going with an extra 20k points takes it to the TOP travel rewards credit card offer out there right now. And yes, it is its highest ever signup bonus. The annual fee is $95. Requires $8k minimum spend in the first three months (used to be crazy high at $15k!). It earns 3x on travel, shipping purchases, internet, cable and phone services, advertising purchases made with social media sites and search engines and 1x on everything else. No foreign transaction fees and primary rental car insurance. Points are worth 1.25 cents each if used in the bank’s travel portal. So, if you do the math: 120k plus 8k MINIMUM (if all spend was at unbonused 1x ) is 128k points times 1.25 cents gives us free travel worth $1,600. For an annual fee of $95. Ok, I did the math for you, come on! And of course you can transfer the points instead to airline/hotel partners (I prefer Hyatt, Air Canada Aeroplan and sometimes Southwest, in that order) for even higher value. Very solid cell phone insurance coverage along with strong travel and purchase protections. Update: Three members of this blogger’s household applied for this card!
Comparing Chase Ink Business Cards: Which One is Right for You
You can refer Amex cards from within your Amex account. Sometimes the referral bonus you earn referring others to Amex cards can be very lucrative. And sometimes the offers you can sign up for can also be very lucrative. And they can vary wildly! Sometimes different offers show up when you use different browsers, incognito mode, desktop or mobile browser or app, it is maddening! So, I will drop here my own personal Amex REFERRAL LINK. You can use this referral link to apply for ANY Amex card. You just click on Learn More and then click on either “Personal Cards” or “Business Cards” at the top. And act accordingly if you see a juicy offer, like a 200k Amex Business Gold!
Capital One has come out with a lucrative 75k Capital One Venture Rewards card PLUS a $250 Travel Credit. The annual fee is $95 and the minimum spend required is $4,000 in three months. Capital One cards usually earn a simple flat 2 points on every dollar. This card earns 5x on hotels and car rentals booked on its own travel portal, which is no big deal. No foreign transaction fees. Get $100 credit towards Global Entry or TSA Precheck. Most importantly, you can transfer the 75,000 points out to airline and hotel partners. Or just erase travel charged on the card for $750. And then of course you get the $250 travel credit. Basically, $1,000 of travel for $95. No Priority Pass lounge membership, just 2 visits allowed to Capital One or Plaza Premium airline lounges. Very tempting indeed. For diversifying purposes as well if you have enough miles and points elsewhere as it is always nice to use this card to pay for a trip and then use Capital One miles to erase the charges. Just like I did for my upcoming trip to Thailand using Capital One miles to fly from Detroit to Bangkok in November. Capital One pulls and reports to all three credit bureaus. And they can be, well, finicky in approvals. If you are denied, you can not call to ask them to reconsider, it is all done by algorithms so, Good Luck! Finally, YES, you can have both the Venture X and the Venture Rewards cards.
Wait, there is more! The streak of unique sweetener offers continues. Pure airline cards must be suffering I am guessing. So, here is Bank of America with a unique sweetener offer: Buy One Get One and 50k Alaska Airlines Visa Signature card. Ok, let’s get into it. The annual fee is $95 and the minimum spend is $3,000 in the first three months. Well, you buy one but you don’t get the other ticket for free, you just have to pay the taxes and fees starting at $23. At each anniversary you get to use a Companion Fare at $99 plus fees/taxes, which could be a great deal. Earns 3x on Alaska Airlines, 2x on gas, EV charging, cable, streaming and local transit, 1x on everything else. Free checked bag and priority boarding for up to 6 guests as long as you use the card to pay for your ticket. 10% bonus on all your purchases annually if you have an eligible Bank of America account (checking or savings will do). 20% off on in flight purchases. No foreign transaction fees. Bank of America website and its Bill Pay feature can be very annoying, always watch them.
I keep receiving emails from Chase trying to get me to apply for the Southwest personal credit cards. Offering only 50k Signup Bonus. Never do that, just wait until the bonus goes much higher ok? Or you can read below how the Signup Bonus for the two Southwest business cards is now 120k. Friends don’t let friends apply for 50k Southwest credit cards! And here we go with two Southwest offering business cards offering 120,000 Points.
Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Business Credit Card and Business Performance Credit Card are offering a signup bonus of up to 120,000 points:
Earn 80,000 points after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from your account opening.
Plus, earn an additional 40,000 points after you spend $15,000 on purchases in the first 9 months

MY ACTION
On Tuesday I decided to go for another 120k Chase Ink Business Preferred card, this one for my daughter. That makes it THREE of them in my household. This is my goodbye gift to her so she can burn them Chase points to travel in the US to see friends and hopefully us. With second kid leaving the nest/area this marks the end of pushing miles and points to them, it’s just not logistically feasible to do this anymore and frankly I am tired, I need to consolidate my efforts and continuing to simplify my life. This may take a few months to hit the minimum spend. Most will go to pay my annual insurance bill, which I expect it to rise a lot due to inflation and having a third car in the household for the present time. So, my favorite bank will give us almost 400,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points #winning. But this morning I see all three $95 annual fees posted so don’t let anyone convince you that it is all free ok?
I am taking a break applying for more travel rewards credit cards right now trying to stay true to my goal to not increase the number of travel rewards credit cards in my household. We closed three cards recently and added three Ink Business Preferred cards. No longer thinking to take a shot to see if Capital One will approve me for a 75k Venture Rewards card. Maybe if it goes up to 100k will make me change my mind. Or even 90k. Maybe in September I take another look at that envelope from Amex on my desk tempting me with a 250k Amex Business Platinum card offer.
I spent some Hyatt points to treat a friend from my hometown to a few nights at my favorite Hyatt in Thessaloniki, Greece. And I used one of my Globalist Guest of Honor certificates on this stay and they loved it. With the recent changes in the World of Hyatt program using each Guest of Honor certificate does give an elite night credit. This one took me to 28 year to date. I have these Hyatt bookings remaining: 4 nights in the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach CA, 3 nights in the Hyatt Centric Arlington VA, 20 nights in the Hyatt Place in Bangkok, 3 nights in the Hyatt Regency Hua Hin in Thailand and 3 nights at the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. That should get me to 61 and requalify me to World of Hyatt Globalist elite status. I do have a few more Guest of Honor certificates to use for a few more elite night credits and I may use them on son’s business stays. And of course I expect all the goodies for the Milestone Rewards to keep coming in as well. Hopefully World of Hyatt does not devalue soon!
We have an AA award reservation for Detroit to Honolulu for son and we will likely cancel it after he arranges for his company to fly him back to Honolulu #developing.
I am enjoying the Olympics in Paris, so many memorable moments. Also, so many news just keep coming at us, hostage releases, targeted killings in the Middle East, volatility is back in the stock markets, political candidates turning black, and on and on. And also, the truly shocking news that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck will divorce again lol.
I am SO sick of the political campaign vicious spamming going on. I thought Biden was bad at this but Harris has taken it to a whole another level, I mean, I get an email or text every hour! We need to get a constitutional amendment to limit election campaigns to two months, this is just insane what is going on.
Finally, it has been crazy hot this week, the humidity in Michigan is unreal, I am ready for winter lol.
I watched the new Shyamalan movie “Trap”. Has there been any other director whose best work was the first film they did and then it has been a shit show ever since? Waiting…
This is me and Mrs. TBB woohoo:

What a lot of material today! This will require the weekend.
Thanks for hanging on!

What DML said! Tons of goodies here. Thanks! Off next week to So Cal. 50th High School reunion. I am going to be wondering who all those old people are, right? haha! Have a great weekend and thanks again for all the stuff here!

Thanks Christian for the coffee, you are first!
Thanks to the reader who got a Chase Ink Cash on August 1st. Starting out August with a bang, hope it continues.
The blog will survive this month.
Also, man, I sure picked a day to have in the title “Stocks Roar Back” LOL.
Truly heroic performance today by the national men’s Basketball team to beat Australia by 6 points and now have to wait to get some help to see if we advance to the knockout stage.
50 year reunion? Hard to believe hey?

I am totally confused as to how they work out who advance but I see Australia went through. Oh well in the big picture of life none of what we watch on TV is really that important.
I took a list at those hotels and concluded even if I won $100 million on PowerBall I have no interest in staying at those properties, I would be so annoyed at that price tag, knowing what good I could do with that money. That said, the way hotel prices are going it won’t be long before we are paying $500 to stay at Holiday Inn Express. We are off to Italy next month and prices are so ridiculous we have reduced to a 3 day weekend just touching base to see our friends and not get gouged for stupid amounts for average accommodation.
Carl Pietrantonio says
Other than when needed for an overnight, I haven’t stayed in a hotel in Italy in years. Airbnb for me. So far it has been great even when there were a couple little problems, I always got things worked out. Just have to be selective when choosing where to be what with looking at reviews and pictures and all.
GeorgeTBB says
The first three basketball games in the Olympics work in a way to make the absolute worst teams to drop out and then leave enough to pair against each other to start the elimination games. All Greeks today root for Serbia to beat South Sudan for Greece to make it to the next round…only to face hot Germany about to clobber us lol.
I noticed hotel prices have been going up. Like pretty much everything else. Definitely one of the Covid changes was to get people to go out all out on experiences, you know, YOLO stuff.
The only Airbnbs I have used were in Greece in places where I can not use hotel points. Two were great and the other two were ok but not enough to go back. The last one in my hometown was great indeed and will use it again.
GeorgeTBB says
Phuck, the blog momentum could not continue I guess.
Bad: Another email list subscriber left.
Good: Going for dim sum shortly with my girls.
Enjoy the weekend everyone, the humidity finally broke around here, mega storm yesterday which we needed desperately.

Problem with Russell 2000 is that unlike S&P500 you can’t ride the winners. And no one IPOs to R2000.
20 nights in Bangkok….physical or virtual stays?
GeorgeTBB says
Mostly physical while we travel around the neighborhood:-)
Good point on the R2000 index, can’t have everything.
Dimsum was great today until the bill came…especially when u drive 1.15 hrs one way for it lol.

George, one of your favorite bloggers got mentioned (footnote, p.2) in a legal communication from Crowdstrike to famed trial lawyer David Boies, who is apparently working for Delta now: https://twitter.com/David_Slotnick/status/1820286332347760672
GeorgeTBB says
Good eye, missed that.
Of course I am referring to this counter strike by Crowdstrike tomorrow, linking to a WSJ article. Can’t believe the arrogance in the Delta executive suites, it is mind boggling. I hope they fight it out in court and I will be prepared with popcorn. Of course, they will “settle” and most will likely go to Boies lol. My guess but who knows, I am no thought leader with this stuff. And yea, pretty wild to quote OMAAT!
GeorgeTBB says
This is why OMAAT probably regrets writing about stuff like this instead of doing more fluff clickbait shit like his buddy VFTW. It will be wild if this thing progresses to a trial and he is asked to testify!
