7 outrageous things you can buy with frequent flier miles. Please please don’t buy that actual airplane seat from All Nippon Airways! We are talking blowing your miles for gold bars and diamond rings baby! Actually, that yacht rental experience burning Qantas miles looks like a good deal to me!
Starwood was the first US based hotel chain to sign three hotels in Cuba! Loyalty Lobby again was the first blog out with the news. The usual pumping bloggers were slow because they needed to flood their posts with the SPG credit card affiliate links…as usual. The Marriott CEO was pissed off he missed on it by SPG again and just could not wait to announce that Marriott will be going to Cuba as well. I just wanted to take another shot at Marriott, I am sorry, it is hard to resist!
Cautionary American Airlines Devaluation Advice: Close-In Booking, Change & Award Redeposit Fees. Timely post at Travel With Grant. Tick tack…
You should always book one-way tickets, except when you shouldn’t. Really good advice here by The Free-quent Flyer.
5 travel ideas for around 50k Ultimate Rewards points. Very nicely done again at MileCards. I would have this site on my resume instead of Frugal Travel Guy where your credit is their most important asset and not yours.
NYC’s Iconic Plaza Hotel is up for sale. Great, just a few months before I am supposed to stay in it! Let me make a wild prediction: Chinese will buy it too 🙂
Fantastic and comprehensive travel guide of Global Festivals. Bookmark it. You ‘re welcome!
Forget the Red Sports Car. The Midlife Crisis is a Myth. What a great read! I started this blog when I hit 45. Maybe this was my way to deal with my own midlife crisis. I gotta tell you it has been great, I am so busy I don’t even have time to think about a crisis, it has all been morphed into a…routine now, cough 🙂 So, thanks for keeping me company you guys!
Disorienting photos of China’s Skyscrapers. Lovely work by photographer Andy Yeung.
Is this the strangest hotel in the world? Wow, strange indeed! It’s the Propeller Island City Lodge in Berlin. Created and designed by German artist Lars Stroschen. 30 unique rooms. How about sleeping in a coffin or a prison cell sounds to you? If we could only burn some points here. Come on, ditch your Hyatt Diamond suite and do a review of this one. If you dare!
If someone tries to sell you, Don’t Buy It! Your personal finance fix of the day. I LOVED this one for obvious reasons! Drop everything, read it now.
- “Often the right thing to do is nothing, particularly if you don’t know the right answer… better to wait, study and learn. Don’t be biased toward action, particularly in investing. Only a salesman wants you biased toward action, and that is for his good, not yours.” – Remember that when a pumping blogger screams “HURRY” to buy their credit cards on their site next time okay?
- “I would say if someone sends you a slick ad on financial services, ignore them. Always. Do your own research. The best firms don’t advertise, because they don’t have to“. – AMEN brother!
- “Keep the hucksters and charlatans at bay. Ignore them.” – YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHH!
There is so much selling in yoface in this space it is downright pathetic! Like this which shows it is all about the hobby lol. I mean, look at it. Right off the gate the writers are flashing you their merchandise on top of the ads above and around it, Jeeeeeesus! Or how about this or these “frugal” guys. I could go on for eveh but who has the time! Apparently, this one started a countdown two weeks out already. Like I said…
MILESBUZZ
My wife was approved for the Ink Plus finally, got the email on Day 26 after applying, wow! Still no card, hopefully today on Day 29.
I spent some time trying to book my award trip to Iran in October using my AA miles. Am I the only one who keeps confusing Emirates with Etihad all the time, WTF! I am not seeing much F or J availability on my dates. I would like to at least burn AA miles one way. Looks like Turkish Airlines is most convenient airline into Tehran IKA and out of Shiraz SYZ. Can anyone help with…
Must get to IKA sometime on Oct 17 (mid afternoon is best). Must get out of SYZ anytime on Oct 28. I depart from Detroit DTW. Departing from O’Hare ORD is doable too. No Alaska miles. Bonus: A380, on board shower. Flat bed on J please, no Jetihads 🙂 Stopover overnight in a cool city where I can burn a free night cert is cool two (Club Carlon 2 nights expiring by end of August!). Please comment or email me! If I do make it per your suggestion I will publicize your site….which means, if you are an award booking service, you will be…RICH with all the referrals. Ok, I am kidding. But it can’t hurt! Thank you.
I usually have LOTS more material in my Monday post. And enough for several days for the week coming up. But….lately, that’s IT! Me thinks bloggers are giving up left and right. It’s getting a lot easier cutting through the crap in Feedly…because there is less crap, yes!
Oh wait. After I watched the amazing ending of the Northern Iowa vs Texas A&M Men’s NCAA Tournament basketball game I saw this post at Lazy Traveler: Asia Via Australia on an ANA Award Ticket. I think there is unmatched value in it 🙂 Oh, that game. Northern Iowa was up by 12 with about 44 seconds to go and they managed to let them tie. Never seen anything like this that I can remember, wow!
And I leave you with this…
Please help bloggers you appreciate & make a positive difference in your life by spreading the word about their blogs, emailing and commenting and using their few $ links, thank you!

This just in:
The WSJ is reporting (and therefore don’t blame me, the Buzz or any of the TBB affiliates if this is wrong) that Starwood has accepted an increased offer from Marriott.
Details to come from other bloggers as soon as they get the links worked out.

Friends have been telling me for years that once Cuba opens to the US, the prices will skyrocket. Maybe has happened already. Off to work now. 🙂

Maybe I’m just really tired but there are some pretty funny comments in the yahoo article. My favorites were:
“I wonder what the cannery promises the sardines?”
“BOHICA, bend over here it comes again”
We oughta start using BOHICA more often for all of the devaluations. And you’re right there have been some crazy games in this years march madness!

Thank you all for taking the time to comment!
If the Marriott news was not around today the blogosphere would be so boring….yawn.
No go and

Ok, entertain as well sometimes 🙂
I used to have a reader who used to beat me up so much via email for adding this blog to the Ignore List and how wrong I was. I have not heard from him lately…haha.
